Product Comment to Trader Joes about Roasted Seaweed Snacks Packaging

I wrote to the product feedback page of Trader Joes webstie about some environmentally offensive packaging:

I am a big fan of Trader Joes. We frequently purchase many of the products you sell. My kids like the Roasted Seaweed Snack. I’m glad for them to enjoy the the contents of the package, as I imagine seaweed is much healthier than a lot of other processed food snacks.

But I am COMPLETELY freaked out by the atrocious, polluting packaging. Not only does it come in a non-biodegradable mylar package, but the seaweed sits in a plastic tray. For one minute enjoying a 60 calorie snack, the earth is stuck with a package to pollute landfills or become microplastics in water to give us all cancer for generations beyond when our great grandchildren our dead.

You are going to say that you care about the enviroment, blah blah blah. But, let’s face it, eveyrthing you say is horse manure until all your packaging is made of 100% post consumer waste or plastic free and tree free. That’s really all there is to it.

While you’re at it, make sure all manufacturing is powered by renewable energy.

Can’t the little tray the seaweed sits in be comprised of bamboo cardboard? Can’t it be in a bamboo cardboard box? When I was a kid, animal crackers came in waxed paper. The animal crackers were always fresh. Why not wax paper for the seaweed. Aren’t there plant based alternatives? I have a hard time believing that there are not.

Please. You have control over what gets onto the shelves of your stores. Make the packaging/products biodegradable, tree free, plastic free, and manufactured with renewable energies. You can do it. I know you can.

I’m a consumer. I want to buy your products. But I don’t want the products to come in future pollution. I’m betting that you can fix that. Be a leader. Please start now.

Thank you,
Emily Gleichenhaus

Product Comment to Colgate about Packaging

I wrote a comment to Colgate-Palmolive about their toothpaste packaging:

I like your products, I very much DISLIKE your packaging. I want the toothpaste, I don’t want the pollution packaging it comes in.

After a tube is empty, that tube then pollutes the earth for generations after our great grandchildren are dead. Or, it breaks down into microplastics which will give us all cancer when it gets into the water supply or pollutes fish.

I am a big fan of the toothpaste tabs that are coming out lately. Why not make those, with whitening and fluoride while you’re at it. Why not package them in 100% post consumer waster packaging or plant base (plastic free/tree free) packing? How about it? Be the solution instead of the problem.

The Everspring Brand at Target Offers Excellent Eco Friendly Products

I’m pleased with Target’s Everspring brand of cleaning products and paper products.

https://www.target.com/b/everspring/-/N-gl7n0#?lnk=snav_rd_everspring

To varying degrees, the cleaning products are plant based and biodegradable, which means they are much less harmful to the earth and the creature (INCLUDING US) that live on it.

The packaging is important. I’m on a packaging rampage. I want the products, but I don’t want products to come in pollution.

Everspring purposely labels for packaging content. Everything I examined had a high content of post consumer waste or was made of 100% post consumer waste. This is good!

The paper products are made of 100% post consumer waste. That means that no trees were cut down so you can dry your hands, wipe your bum, or clean your counter. This is good!

Did you know that most cleaning wipes are made of plastic? These wipes then become that microplastics that will give us cancer when we drink water or eat fish.

THIS IS A COMPLETELY NEEDLESS AND SOLVABLE PROBLEM:
Buy cleaning wipes that are made of plant materials.

The Everclean wipes are good as any cleaning wipes I’ve used. They are made of 100% plant based material. They are compostable. The solutions what wets them is also plant based and biodegradable.

Compare this to Clorox wipes which are 100% pollution. Yes, they clean your counter, but are otherwise nothing but pollution, from the packaging to the cleaning solution, to the materials the wipes themselves are made of. POLLUTION.

Clorox makes Greenworks wipes, but the packaging in pollution.

With Everygreen wipes are a MUCH BETTER CHOICE for your health and the Earth.
