866 Our Vote: Election Protection
Working 365 days to Advance and Defend Your Right to Vote
Protecting the right and the ability to vote.
Millions of Americans can’t access the democratic process because of solvable problems in how elections are run — and just 80,000 voters decided the outcome of the 2016 presidential race. These problems aren’t felt equally across communities — voters of color are 6x more likely than white voters to wait longer than an hour to vote, even in the same town. Voting rights issues are getting fought out in the courts, and local and national advocacy organizations challenge state legislators who try to pass regressive voting laws. Grassroots organizations register and turn out voters before every election. But the millions of Americans who can’t vote tell us there’s more to do. Access Democracy is working to fix it. And we need you.

ALL ON THE LINE
We’re on a mission to end gerrymandering and restore fairness to our elections and democracy. Because every American should have an equal say in our government. One person. One vote. Whether you care about providing access to affordable health care, reducing the gun violence that plagues our schools and communities, protecting voting rights, achieving equal pay, or solving the urgent threat of climate change, there is a fundamental structural barrier that prevents progress: rigged electoral maps drawn with surgical precision by politicians to preserve their party’s political power and silence the will of the people.
All Voting is Local
The All Voting is Local campaign fights to protect and expand the right to vote for every American. We know systemic barriers stand between eligible voters and the ballot. We know what works. We fight to solve problems and ensure all voters have access to the ballot, no matter who they are, where they live, or the hours they work. We know communities of color and other historically disenfranchised voters have faced needless barriers to the ballot. And that making voting easier for everyone strengthens our democracy. We know together we can expand access to the ballot so that every voter in every community has a voice.

For decades, the Koch Brothers and a network of right-wing billionaires have distorted our democracy by exploiting the tremendous powers of state legislatures, to rig the electorate and the maps to their advantage. The 2020 elections are our last chance to win back power before the next redistricting process, which will shape the political landscape until 2032.

There’s Power in Small Towns
We are drawn to small towns for the strong community they provide. Whether you’re a lifelong resident or new arrival, Alabama’s small communities offer a place to put down deep roots. But increasingly our communities are under attack by corporate interests that run local shops out of business, shutter our hospitals, and pollute our rivers, providing only unstable poverty-wage jobs in return. Politicians in Montgomery have taken away our right to local control, cut funding for our schools, and do nothing to create opportunities for young people who are forced to leave their hometowns to find work. Hometown Action is a power-building collective of small town Alabamians fighting to build inclusive and sustainable communities where all residents can thrive. We know residents offer the best solutions to local problems. Together we can build the multiracial working class power we need to take back our communities. Join the small town movement

Pragmatism, activism, impact. We chose our priorities based on where we believed we could make the most difference. After analysis, consideration, and much discussion, we committed our collective energy to flipping the House Democratic in 2018. The 2018 midterm elections are the most important of our lifetimes and we are working tirelessly to ensure the ideals of America are closer to being realized. In addition to direct action like phone banking and canvassing, we put our professional experience to work for the cause in social media advertising and partnerships to advance voter enfranchisement.

Let America Vote
We have a voting problem in America. Voting in our country has never been easy, but there’s a new challenge: Politicians are trying to stop Americans from voting because of who they are likely to vote for in an election. Extreme voter suppression laws that disproportionately impact people based on their race or ethnicity, gender, age, or income have started popping up all over the country. If we don’t fight back, more and more Americans will become disenfranchised. SEE WHAT WE’RE DOING
STATE LEGISLATURES ARE KEY. State legislatures not only create the laws that affect the everyday lives of their constituents, they also play a critical role in determining the districts for the U.S. House of Representatives and thus the fate of the entire country. One Virginia 2021
Every decade, with recent results of the census in hand, legislative districts are drawn. Redrawing political lines is a powerful tool that determines who wins an election, controls the legislature, and ultimately which laws pass. In Virginia, legislators create the criteria and draw their own districts. This is a manipulative process known as gerrymandering, and we must create a system that more fairly draws political lines.

Stop the Bans, #StopTheBans. Politicians in multiple states are passing laws that ban abortion at a point before most people know they’re pregnant. Repairers of the Breach
Some issues are not left versus right, but right versus wrong.
Repairers of the Breach is a nonpartisan 501 (c) 3 tax exempt not-for-profit organization that seeks to build a moral agenda rooted in a framework that uplifts our deepest moral and constitutional values to redeem the heart and soul of our country. We challenge the position that the preeminent moral issues are prayer in public schools, abortion, and property rights. Instead, we declare that the moral public concerns of our faith traditions are how our society treats the poor, women, LGBTQ people, children, workers, immigrants, communities of color, and the sick. Our deepest moral traditions point to equal protection under the law, the desire for peace within and among nations, the dignity of all people, and the responsibility to care for our common home.
We bring together conservatives, progressives, and everyone in between to pass powerful anti-corruption laws that stop political bribery, end secret money, and fix our broken elections.

Progressive Electoral Politics Organizations
Across the country, we are seeing a new wave of extreme bans on abortion, stripping away reproductive freedom and representing an all-out assault on abortion access. This is Trump’s anti-choice movement… and it’s terrifying, particularly for women of color and low-income women who are most affected by these bans. We will show up to speak out and fight back against this unconstitutional attempt to gut Roe and punish women. Politicians shouldn’t be making decisions best left to women, their families, and their doctors. Together we say: Stop the bans.
Women are marching, running for office, donating to and advocating for causes and campaigns, and voting in record numbers. We can be the most powerful force in America—if we do the work together. TO HONOR SERVICE: GIVE SERVICE AND DO GOOD THINGS
I am the daughter of a Veteran and the wife of a Veteran.
I honor their service to our country and the service of all other people who have given of themselves to protect or provide support for people (and the institutions that serve them) in their communities.
Symbolic gestures of honor, to me, are meaningless. If standing up for the National Anthem is your only idea of honoring service members, or just giving lip service to support it without recognizing the reasons people make respectful silent protests, for shame.
John McCain suggested that each of of work to serve a purpose higher than ourselves. THAT’S the way to honor the service of others: putting yourself out there and serving your community or your country. Anything short of actual service of some kind (and it can take many different forms) falls short of the mark, in my not-so-humble opinion.
Do Good Things and Measure Up.
