Eloise and I took a walk in our neighborhood and got a bag full of junk into the garbage can where it belongs:
We picked up a lot of trash in a little commercial village called Westover that is just a couple blocks from our house. We saw neighbors and people we knew. It’s great to be observed doing this activity, since folks see that THEY can Pick Up Trash, too! We got many compliments on our efforts. We got two identical comments from different people who said, “Everybody should do that!” YES!! Everybody should Pick Up Trash. It’s not difficult, just Pick Up Trash and put it where it belongs. Though it would, of course be best if nobody littered in the first place (and one must account for accidents and spills that can’t be helped), but Pick Up Trash and you’ve done a service to your community.

This was picked up out of the gutters by a school I visit with Sing Books. People seem to think it is OK to chuck junk out of their cars and just leave it there to fester on the street. Folks should take responsibility for their own waste and put it where it belongs in the recycle or a designated trash receptacle.

This little load of garbage was picked up from a long a curb in one single block that leads directly to the Westover shopping area in Arlington, VA.
